Mexico 2-3 Iran
Iran defeated Mexico 3-2 in their Group C clash to seal a place in the knockout stages in the 2015 FIFA Beach Soccer Cup in Portugal.
Iran raced into a three-goal lead through goals from Amir Akbari, Mohammad Ahmadzadeh and Faroogh Dara. Mexico hit back with two second half goals, through Gerardo Gomez and Abdiel Villa, but Iran held onto their lead to qualify from the group.
Akbari opened the scoring two minutes before Ahmadzadeh grabbed his third in three games with a spectacular overhead kick.
Efforts from Gomez and Villa weren’t enough for the Mexicans to take anything from the game.
Mexico applied the pressure in search for the equaliser, however Iran goalkeeper Peyman Hosseini made some spectacular saves to help Iran hold onto the win.
Iran coach Marco Octavio will now prepare his side as they face Group D winners Tahiti in the quarter-finals on Thursday.
